Junk Sword Transformation
Переглядів 1,1 тис.Рік тому
Give me a cheap, junky wall hanger and I'll turn it into something that doesn't hurt your eyes to look at. Can you swing it though? No, no, no. Let's not get carried away. The tang is welded to a threaded wire that screws into the pommel. To fix that issue, you'd need an entirely new blade. Oh well. It still turned out OK.

Can a Deepeeka Sword Look High-End?
Переглядів 12 тис.3 роки тому
Most of us like the look of high-end swords. Much of what pleases the eye is the grip and how much work has been put into it. Is it possible to take a very moderately priced sword, such as the Deepeeka Hersir, and make it look like a higher priced blade? I'm going to try to find out.

    Love to get this sword, hospitaller, or Norman. Deciding on a first sword is frustrating in your 20s when the ones I want are around $1,000 plus. Plus the wait time for albion, gonna have to go with a different swordmaker for my first. Can't go 2 years with no sword when I have full armor already.

    You mentioned albions competition. What companies are they? I waited almost 2 years for this sword. Obviously I don't want to wait over 10 years just to own 5 swords from albion.

    Just a quick question. Should a gorget be worn over or under the surcoat. Or, does it really matter? I was just wondering because I'm putting a knight's armor suit together for a rennaissnce fair in the fall. I was just curious because I want accuracy. The surcoat is plain with no symbols, or emblems. It's just a plain green surcoat. Any help would be much appreciated. God bless you and yours.

    So, you don't want a drop of glue to be seen because it "would look too modern", and then you _deliberately_ leave the lighter sides of modern leather vissible because "it looks better"? Dude, since that *SCREAMS* _chrome-tanned_ (read: modern) _leather,_ I hope you realize you earned yourself a snark.

    • @MattsGreatHall
      @MattsGreatHall 2 місяці тому

      Not sure you understand the difference between the dying process for chrome tanned leather and veg tanned. Chrome tanned leather is immersed in large tubs (you can Google it) and it receives an even distribution of dye. So, no, I would have to disagree with your assessment.

    • @notfeedynotlazy
      @notfeedynotlazy 2 місяці тому

      @@MattsGreatHall I'm talking of exactly what I've written: leaving the surface dyed and the sides and back undied makes it look _exactly_ as modern chrome-tanned leather, which as you surely know does look that way. Enjoy your well-deserved snark for going out of your way to make good leather look like cheap one.

    My problem with Depeeka swords isn't their hilts, but rather the fact the blades are ground very unevenly. This can be fixed, of course, but takes a lot of time with sandpaper and a sanding block. Still, even for that, they're at least as good, if not better, than the original swords were in their day.

      I see that a lot of people are extremely concerned with the aesthetics of budget swords. Maybe because I come from a military experience, my only concern has always been one of functionality. In the end what matters is can it KEEL...😅 !

      Off the top of my head-Balour Arms, Lockwood Swords, Tod Cutler/Tods Workshop swords, Darksword Armory (they’ve been around as long as Albion, but I haven’t looked at them closely). I think there are one or two more. Not sure if they’re all cheaper than Albion, but it’s probably worth checking out.

    For premier sword manufacturers like Albion, it would be nice if they instituted a serial number system like Wilkinson. Albion makes swords that very well may last 100+ years. A serial number system would help prevent fakes and give owners a historical record.

  • @WhatIfBrigade
    @WhatIfBrigade 4 місяці тому

    I've never sold swords, but as a former retail manager I can easily see swords costing $200 more if you are working overtime to make them. I think they have realized the backlog is hurting their reputation and spending more to try to catch up. Also as a former retail manager, I suspect the "1 of 10,000" types of numbers are achieved like so: a manufacturer often makes "exclusive" appliances or products by offering one or two unique features. It is really, really easy to make 500 Templar swords, tweak the design slightly, and then each run is legally and technically "1 of 500." See also car model years.

  • @fettmaneiii4439
    @fettmaneiii4439 4 місяці тому

    I've said this for years, but I think the best way forward for Albion is to eliminate the wait list entirely. I'm pretty sure they have like, zero to one employee, and they are getting spotty quality because of retention, and in my opinion the psychological torture of a massive 2 year wait list. End it. for good. If someone orders a sword, make it, but disable orders until that sword is literally in the mail to the customer. Then, enable orders. Then, once another order comes in, disable the orders on the website again. Once that one's done and in the mail, no sooner, then enable the order page again. No waitlist.

    • @fettmaneiii4439
      @fettmaneiii4439 4 місяці тому

      also, when they make swords for the conventions, they need to have 0 swords on a waitlist. So, when convention time is springing up, disable the orders page until the convention is done. You can't push clients on a wait list they have been on for 1.5 years straight to 2 years just because you want to make swords to sell at the convention, it's abusing your own loyal paying customers full stop. Disabling the wait list solves all the problems at once.

    • @fettmaneiii4439
      @fettmaneiii4439 4 місяці тому

      bare in mind that I say this out of a desire to see Albion hit a whole new level of success and to see them released from the tyranny of a 2 year long waitlist.

    • @tatumergo3931
      @tatumergo3931 Місяць тому

      Maybe, but after buying your first sword, would you be so fast to get rid of it? If the sword is fully functional and rather well made, it wouldn't be such a bad idea to have it customized for a couple of extra $100 dollars. It's not like spending a couple of hundred dollars on a katana, to later find out that it was a rat-tail. Now that was really frustrating and no way of fixing it. Plus the quality of the steel was horrendous, very lucky not to have ended up injured after it snapped in half! It went right into the metal recycling bin... Now this sword seems to have the potential for adorning it. A better leather grip, which historically would have happened any ways, and some engraving designs could be added to the pommel. For a few extra hundred bucks it would not be a bad investment. Besides, don't people today who are into firearms start with a cheap AR platform and then start adding stuff to it?
